High Schools, Bachelors and Master Fairs
Lithuania is well known as the country of basketball, and we are all waiting impatiently for the celebration of this game in our country. For the second time (the first was in 1939) in the European Basketball Championship history Lithuania will host the event referred as EuroBasket 2011. It will be the 37th continental Championship held by FIBA Europe, and the top two teams are guaranteed spots at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Mykolas Romeris University greets all the players and basketball fans by joining the organization of this big event. Top 8 teams of EuroBasket 2011 will hold their trainings and prepare for the play-off at the University’s sports hall.
Mykolas Romeris University has been cultivating the Olympic spirit for a long time, and as a proof of that on December 1st, 2010, the Lithuanian National Olympic Committee (LNOC) awarded the Rector of Mykolas Romeris University, Prof. Dr. Alvydas Pumputis, with LNOC's Honorary Medal for the University’s contribution to sports. Artūras Poviliūnas, the President of Lithuanian National Olympic Committee, said that athletes at this University have the best study conditions, which highly contribute to their possibilities for reaching Olympic heights.
We are very proud of University’s athletes and coaches, who year by year have been showing best results in a wide variety of sports competitions. Continuing on in the tradition of MRU Olympic athletes E. Krungolcas (pentathlon, silver in 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing), A. Zadneprovskis (pentathlon, silver in 2004 Summer Olympics in Athena and bronze in 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing), L. Asadauskaitė (pentathlon, silver in 2009 World Championship in London), M. Griškonis (rowing, gold in 2009 European Championship in Brest), G. Titenis (swimming, bronze in 2009 World Championship in Rome), this year University athletes won a record amount of medals. This month marked the conclusion of Lithuanian students’ sports season of the Academic year 2010/2011, and we would like to share the achievements of MRU athletes (see here:MRU joins EuroBasket 2011).
